General comments

  • Behandeling is altijd multidisciplinair en in overleg met expertise centrum.
  • Chirurgische therapie is waarschijnlijk de enige curatieve therapie bij alveolaire echinococcose en is eerste keuze behandeling. Preoperatief behandelen met albendazol gedurende 28 dagen.
  • Medicamenteuze behandeling is na chirurgische behandeling noodzakelijk bij alle patiënten en is tijdelijk in het geval van radicale resectie (minimaal twee jaar) en in de regel levenslang voor alle andere patiënten.
  • Indien chirurgie niet mogelijk dan therapie met antihelminthica. Duur van behandeling onduidelijk, minimaal 2 jaar en mogelijk levenslang.
  • Bij langdurig gebruik van albendazol, controleer leverfuncties en leukocytenaantal.
